Prints on various pieces of clothing are now "daily bread". We meet them practically everywhere and it is hard to imagine modern clothing without at least one decoration made with this method. It is an extremely universal way to express your style, stand out or even advertise. Today you will learn a little more about popular apparel prints .

Prints - a short history of the most popular method of marking clothes

Although we associate the print with a typically modern phenomenon, its original form has been used for thousands of years by artists in Japan. It was the so-called stencil printing, which in the 12th century was perfected by Yuzensai Miyasaki and became the prototype of screen printing. This method was used by him to artistically decorate kimonos. However, several hundred years had to pass before this invention began to resemble the current ornamentation on clothing.

We have been dealing with the modern form of prints on clothing since the mid-twentieth century, when well-known t-shirts began to enjoy popularity. In the beginning, printed clothing was mainly used for advertising purposes. However, in the 1960s, almost everything began to be put on T-shirts. We owe this to the invention of plastisol ink, which made the print more durable. In the 90s, there was a fashion for prints with the names or logos of music bands. Currently, prints on clothing are a permanent element of mass culture around the world.

Technology - DTF, DTG and screen printing

The most popular methods of printing on clothing are DTG, DTF and the aforementioned screen printing. What distinguishes these methods of decorating clothes? We are in a hurry to explain!

DTG printing , or "Direct to Garment", is a method of decorating performed with a professional printer that transfers a specific design from the computer to the fabric. It allows you to transfer even detailed patterns with tonal transitions and color nuances. However, it should be remembered that the final effect of such a print depends on several factors, namely the type of equipment, paints and fabric used for printing, as well as the individual skills of the people performing the order. Such a project can only be made on cotton or cotton fabric with an admixture of elastane or viscose.

Screen printing consists in decorating the fabric by pressing the paint through a special matrix, purchased for printing. We distinguish single-color and multi-color screen printing. It provides vivid colors and exceptional durability. With this method, you don't have to worry that the print will wash out or fade over time, but you have to expect a slightly longer wait for the finished product.

DTF printing ("Direct to film"), in turn, is the latest method of decorating fabrics, which is divided into two main stages: creating graphics on a special PET film and thermally applying it to clothing using a press. This method of printing on clothes is characterized by great versatility: it can be used for any fabric or piece of clothing. Many people notice that DTF printing combines the quality of DTG printing and the durability of screen printing. It's a great choice for individual orders or for people who want to apply their own pattern to clothing.

In the case of each method of decorating clothes, it is worth paying attention to the quality offered by the printing house whose services we want to use. You must remember that the equipment (e.g. type of printer) and products (e.g. paints, inks) they use in their work significantly affect the final appearance of the project. Helpful and experienced staff who will provide each client with useful advice is also important. Use only the services of proven studios!

When is it worth choosing a print?

Printed clothing is a unique idea for both businesses and individuals. Clothing with a logo or brand name on it still works great as an element of brand marketing. They can significantly affect the recognition and building a positive image of the business. Printed clothing is also a very good idea for an original gift or a souvenir of an important event.

Here it is also worth asking yourself one question: can the print on clothing be used always? Printing on clothing enjoys unflagging popularity. Among other things, for this reason, less experienced people often think that any method of decorating will work with any project. However, this is not always true. Every experienced employee of the printing house will advise you against printing on fleece materials. In this case , computer embroidery works best. As we have already mentioned, DTG printing is best used on cotton fabrics. In the case of other methods, the printing possibilities are practically unlimited.

Finally, we must mention that the part of the garment on which we want to print is also important - it is worth asking the printing house staff whether the selected item of clothing will work in the case of decorating with a specific method.
